As hundreds of students at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) continue to face deactivation from the Student Information Portal (SIP) — effectively blocking them from writing their mid-semester examinations — Annobil Ebenezer, an aspiring SRC President, has openly expressed his displeasure at the current SRC leadership’s lack of urgency in addressing the crisis.
For the past few days, frustrated students have raised alarm about being unable to access their SIP accounts due to unexplained deactivations. For many, this means they cannot register for courses, access academic materials, or even sit for their ongoing mid-semester exams.
While the affected students struggle to find solutions, many say the current SRC leadership has done little to intervene or provide clear communication, leaving students feeling abandoned at a critical time.
Annobil Ebenezer, who recently declared his intention to contest for SRC President, did not hold back his disappointment at what he describes as an unacceptable failure of leadership.
"It is deeply worrying to see so many students frustrated, confused, and unable to write their exams while those elected to represent them sit unconcerned. This is not the leadership students deserve," he stated.
He added, "The role of the SRC is to be the strong voice of students — especially in moments of crisis like this. Watching in silence while students suffer is simply not an option.”
Annobil Ebenezer called on the current SRC president and his executives to rise to the occasion by engaging university management, providing clear updates to students, and ensuring that every affected student’s portal is restored immediately.
"This is not about politics — this is about students’ futures. We cannot watch our mates lose exams and suffer setbacks over issues that can be solved if the SRC truly cares," he said.
Annobil Ebenezer has pledged to continue adding his voice until the issue is resolved. He urged all students to stay calm and united while pressing for a quick solution.
As the mid-semester exams continue, students are hoping the mounting pressure will push the SRC to act swiftly and ensure that no student is unfairly left behind.
