UEW SRC President Godwin Asare’s Wasteful Spending on Live Band for Freshers' Akwaaba
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has long prided itself on fostering student engagement through entertainment. However, the latest decision by the SRC President, H.E. Godwin Asare, to allocate 80,000 GHS for a live band performance at Freshers' Akwaaba has left many students outraged. The sheer scale of this spending, especially in comparison to past events, raises serious concerns about mismanagement and misplaced priorities.
During the tenure of H.E. Bismark Opoku (OPK), entertainment was both high-quality and cost-effective. For example, OPK’s administration secured dancehall superstar Shatta Wale for 75,000 GHS, a move that electrified the student body and gave them real value for money. In stark contrast, Asare’s administration is splurging more money on a live band, an option that many students find underwhelming.
This reckless financial decision begs the question: Is this really the best use of student resources?
UEW students have not remained silent on this issue. Many have taken to social media and campus forums to express their displeasure, questioning the rationale behind this 80,000 GHS allocation. The outrage stems not only from the amount being spent but also from the lack of transparency in the decision-making process.
H.E. Godwin Asare’s decision to spend 80,000 GHS on a live band for Freshers' Akwaaba is a glaring example of poor financial planning and disregard for student interests. If the SRC truly aims to represent the students, then it must prioritize value-driven decisions over extravagant and ineffective spending. The UEW student body deserves better!

ReplyDeleteThe live band is a waste of resource and time because few students will be present. I don't see anything entertaining about this year's src celebration
